Remembering Rao Mama

Many of you who knew Sri S. Tyagaraja Rao ( Rao mama)  have suggested that we recognise his contributions to the community on the CCMA website. Let us all join together to create a collage in his honor. We invite each one of you to share your personal memories of Rao mama and come together to celebrate his life and his presence in our midst.

S. Tyagaraja Rao Memorial Childrens' Competition 2011

In order to showcase the talent of our youngsters who are learning Carnatic Music, CCMA will conduct a Children's Carnatic Music Competion. The competition will be judged by a team of visiting artists who will be presenting a jugalbandhi concert that evening. The competition is open to all children between ages 5 and 16 years. Age groups will be determined after the registration deadline.

To enter the competition  please email CCMA  (to_ccma@yahoo.com) ) giving the contestants’ name, age, phone number, address, an email address as well as the song that he/she wishes to present. All registrations must be received by Feb 21st  2011. Rules and additional details are shown below.  A registration fee of $10 per child will be due on the day of the competition. The fee will be waived for Patrons and Benefactors of CCMA.

Venue: Dublin Community Recreation Center, 5600 Post Road, Dublin Ohio.

Competition Rules 
• Children between the ages of 5 – 11 yrs and 12 - 16 yrs of age are eligible to participate.
• Participants will be given up to five minutes each to present a krithi without accompaniment.
Children may also present a geetham, varnam, or other song and will be given three minutes each.
• A bell will sound at the end of the time. If a contestant continues to sing past the bell, they may be disqualified.
• The competition will include instrumental categories including percussion.
• All songs must be sung or played without Alapana, Niraval or Kalpana Swarams
• Songs are not restricted to any particular composer or language.
• All presentations must be solo without any instrumental or other support except sruthi.
• To participate you must register by email to CCMA (to_ccma@yahoo.com) giving the contestants’ name, age, phone number and address, as well as the song that he/she wishes to present.
• All registrations must be received by Feb 21st 2011.
• A registration fee of $10 per child will be due on the day of the competition.
• The fee will be waived for 2011 Patrons and Benefactors of CCMA.
• Age Groups will be determined after registrations are complete.
• If there are a large number of participants CCMA – at its sole discretion - may arrange an audition round and may adjust the time allowed per contestant.
• All participants will be required to arrive by 8:45 AM at the venue on the day of the competition.
• Failure to comply with any of these rules of the competition will result in disqualification.
• The judges will be visiting artists.
• Certificates will be awarded for the best presentations in each category.
• Winners will be announced and awards presented at the end of the concert which will be held on the same day in the evening.
• The judges’ decisions will be final
